Storm Ready, Summer Ready

Is Your Yard Storm Ready? Tree Care Tips Before Summer Weather Hits

June is a great time to take a good look around your property.

The grass is growing, the leaves are full, and everything is starting to look green again. But it is also the time of year when heavy rain, wind, and summer storms can put extra pressure on the trees around your home.

A tree that looked fine in early spring might now be hanging over your roof, leaning toward your driveway, crowding your fence, or dropping large branches into your yard. That does not always mean there is an emergency, but it does mean it is worth paying attention.

At Elite Tree Services, Derek and his experienced crew help homeowners in Ottawa, Stittsville, Nepean, Richmond, Kanata, Carleton Place, Perth, Almonte, Smiths Falls, and surrounding communities with everything from careful pruning to challenging removals. The goal is simple: keep your property safer, cleaner, and easier to enjoy. Here are a few things to watch for before summer weather really kicks in.

Look for branches hanging over your home or driveway

Branches that hang over your roof, vehicles, garage, deck, pool, or driveway can become a concern during high winds or heavy rain. Even healthy trees can drop limbs when the weather turns.

If you notice branches getting too close to your home or other structures, pruning may be the right solution. Proper pruning can reduce weight, improve shape, and help protect the areas of your property you use every day.

Watch for dead or damaged limbs

Dead branches are not always easy to spot from the ground, especially once the tree is full of leaves. Some signs to look for include branches with no leaves, cracked limbs, peeling bark, or branches that look dry and brittle compared to the rest of the tree.

Dead or damaged limbs can break without much warning. Having them removed by an experienced crew can help reduce the chance of damage during summer storms.

Pay attention to leaning trees

Not every leaning tree is a problem, but a tree that suddenly starts leaning or has exposed roots around the base should be looked at. Soil can shift after heavy rain, and trees that are already stressed may become less stable.

If something looks different or feels off, it is better to have it checked sooner rather than later.

Do not forget about hedges and overgrowth

Hedges, shrubs, and overgrown branches can quickly take over walkways, driveways, fences, and sightlines. Hedge trimming is not just about making your yard look neat. It can also make your property easier to maintain and more enjoyable for the summer.

A clean yard feels better, especially when you are spending more time outside.

Stumps can be more than an eyesore

If you had a tree removed in the past but the stump is still sitting there, June is a good time to deal with it. Stumps can get in the way of mowing, landscaping, gardening, and outdoor projects. Stump grinding can help open up the space and give your yard a cleaner finish.

When in doubt, ask a professional

Tree work can be dangerous, especially when climbing, cutting near structures, or dealing with large limbs. Elite Tree Services is fully insured and experienced in both delicate pruning and challenging removals.

If you are not sure whether a tree needs to be pruned, removed, cabled, or simply monitored, Derek Howe and the Elite Tree Services crew can help you figure out the right next step.

Before summer storms arrive, take a walk around your property. Look up, look around, and make note of anything that seems too close, too heavy, damaged, leaning, or overgrown.

A little tree care now can save a lot of stress later.
